Two Ravensbourne University lecturers become published authors

Ravensbourne University London employ range of talented teaching staff who are experts in their chosen fields, many writing papers or books to further understanding and aid future learning. This month alone two books have been published by lecturers, one discussing the life and fashion of Coco Chanel and another considering machine learning and cyber security.

Lecturers Rose Sgueglia and Dr Ehsan Nowroozi’s published works further cement Ravensbourne’s position as a top authority across the fields of design and technology. It showcases how our students are taught by lecturers who are real experts in their field. 

‘The Real Coco Chanel’, written by our MSc Digital Marketing senior lecturer Rose Sgueglia, is a biography exploring the history of the famed designer – and the mythology that has been built around her. 

It chronicles her life from her troubled and poor past to her becoming one of France’s leading courtiers who helped to change the way that women dressed. 

She was the fashion designer behind the little black dress and ‘Chanel No 5’, a businesswoman whose fortune was impossible to track, lover of many high-profile intellectuals and, as believed by many, a Nazi spy.

The second book is ‘Adversarial Machine Learning’, co-authored by Dr Ehsan Nowroozi, senior lecturer on our BSc (Hons) Cyber Security course. 

Written collaboratively with Dr Kassem Kallas and published by the influential publisher Springer, it provides invaluable insights into digital forensics, machine learning, addressing evolving cyber threats, and enhancing information protection. 

The book is split into two main areas. The first focuses on digital image forensics, including advanced techniques for image manipulation detection, methods for face recognition, and the use of such methods in criminal investigations. 

It also looks at the broader landscape of security, including the detection of synthetic human voices, secure deep neural networks (DNNs), and federated learning in the context of machine learning security.
